Also called the hairy Mou'ed collie, the mountain collie, or the Highland collie, the bearded collie is one the oldest breeds originated in Great Britain. Some experts claim that the bearded collie was around to witness the Romans invading Britain.
In 1840, a man named Hall bred some smooth blue-merle Highland collies to dingos, producing a strain known as Hall's heelers.
The Beardie is also known as the Highland Collie, the Mountain Collie, or the Hairy Mou'ed Collie.

The breeds used to develop the Australian Cattle Dog, as documented by Australian officials, were the Dingo, the blue merle Highland Collie, the black-and-tan Kelpie and the Dalmatian. The dogs are natural guardians and eager companions for children.
Beardies were previously known as Highland Collies or Highland Sheepdogs. These dogs were developed in Scotland to herd sheep and cattle. The breed almost disappeared in the early 1900's but has had a resurgence as a show dog and family companion.

Its development began when Hall crossbred blue-merle Highland collies with dingos, the outcome then known as Hall's heelers, named for their herding style of nipping at the heels of cattle.
It is also called the Highland Collie for this reason. The Bearded part of the name comes from the beard like fur that grows down from the chin. Collie is the Scottish word for herding dog. The breed nearly became extinct in the Second World War.

Dingo wad bred with primitive stage of Collie dogs, in 1840, the Thomas Hall crossed a couple of Blue Smooth Highland Collies with Dingoes. The cross resulted into a litter of puppies which they called "Hall's Heelers".
The Australian Cattle Dog originates, of course, from Australia, and is the result of cross breeding between dogs including bull terriers, Australian Kelpies, Scottish Highland collies, dalmations, and wild dingo.

It has been suggested that around 1514 some Polish Sheep Dogs were brought to Scotland where they were eventually bred with the Highland Collie, and this was the foundation of what we know today as the Bearded Collie.

This dog came from the Great Britain. Initially, this dog had attributes that were very similar to those of the Highland Collie. This is a very active animal. It intensely enjoys life away from the domestic setting.
It is believed that the Bearded Collie was developed from the Polski Owczarek Nizinny dog from Poland. The Polish dogs were mixed with Highland Collies which became known as the Beard Collie.
