Iceland Sheepdog Description
The Icelandic Sheepdog experienced a large nose and black-pigmented lips. The depth of the chest is equal to the length of the foreleg. The expression is gentle, intelligent and happy.
After the Iceland Sheepdog suffered a bout with distemper and tapeworms in the late 1800s, a ban on all mammals was issued for Iceland. Healthy today, the Icelandic Sheepdog is a small, furry sheepdog used for herding, guarding and as a working dog.

History
The Iceland Sheepdog is thought to have been brought to Iceland by Vikings in the 7th or 8th century. As of today, it is Iceland's only native dog breed. It is thought to be related to the Shetland Sheepdog and the Welsh Corgi.
