IWS

Size
The IWS is the tallest member of the spaniel family. Males are 22 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 55 to 65 pounds; females are 21 to 23 inches tall and weigh 45 to 60 pounds.

However, in the IWS, the loose hairs tend to mat in the new coat, creating messy cords. Be sure to comb through the coat more often during this period. Mats are especially common behind the ears and on the feet.

Records document the "Water Spagnel" with "long, rough, curled hair and a tail somewhat bare and naked." Today’s IWS is a true dual-purpose hunting dog, as qualified with upland game as with waterfowl.
