The Kerry Blue Terrier originated in County Kerry, south-western Ireland. An excellent sporting dog and fine swimmer, it was used there to hunt badgers, foxes, and otters.
The Kerry Blue Terrier is a medium-sized dog, well-built and muscular. The coats are black at birth, but over time will change color, lightening from black to a very dark blue or bluish gray.
The Kerry Blue Terrier’s coat changes color as it matures. As a puppy, its coat is dark, usually brown, black or blue. As it matures, its coat turns into a grayish blue and lightens in color. Their coat should be groomed every 6 moths.
The Kerry Blue Terrier is long-legged, strong-boned, muscular, and upstanding dog with a short back. Its build and athletic ability enable it to herd, trail, run, retrieve, swim, and dispatch vermin, making it a perfect farm companion.
