Thought of as one of the oldest Australian breeds, the Koolie's origin is a mix of many different breeds brought to Australia in the 1800s to aid in herding.

Koolie's have now been accepted to the Victorian Canine Association Sporting registrar, and are listed as "Australian Koolie's" in all obedience catalogues.
