Kuvasz History
The Kuvasz is considered a Hungarian breed; however it most likely descended from giant dogs of Tibet. It did eventually make its way to Hungary from Tibet, through Turkey.

Kuvaszok are large dogs with dense coats which are usually white in color and can range from wavy to straight in texture. Although the fur is white, the Kuvasz's skin pigmentation should be dark and the nose should be black.

Kuvasz breeding in the 15th century was meticulously planned and documented, and the dogs became very popular on huge Hungarian estates, functioning as hunting and guard dogs.
The Kuvasz is a large, confident breed, very territorial and with a strong protective instinct, which makes it an excellent guard dog or herder. They are intelligent and easy to house train.
The kuvasz needs daily exercise and enjoys a long walk or good run in a safe area. He does best when allowed access to both house and yard. His coat needs brushing one or two times weekly, more often during heavy shedding periods.

Care: The Kuvasz should be brushed on a regular basis all the way down to the undercoat. This will remove excess hair during shedding, and will keep the hair free from mats. This breed does best in colder climates mentally, and physically.
Temperament: Kuvaszok are protective, loyal and reliable. They are obedient, territorial and suspicious of strangers. They are polite to strangers, though, unless an action is misinterpreted. Kuvaszok are spirited, sensitive and and gentle.

The last of the AKC-registered flock guardians is the Kuvasz, a breed probably dating back to Turkey and Tibet but with its modern origin in Hungary.
He is quite comparable in the direction of the Pyrenees and the Kuvasz, but is leaner and much more agile. The mind is in balance with the sleep belonging in the direction of the body, huge and strong, slightly rounded, possessing a quit light.

and although the Pyrenees mountains of Europe are considered to be its native land its ancestors were problably the Hungarian Kuvasz, the Turkish Karabash, the Slovakian Kuvac and the Italian Maremmano-Abruzzese.
Its closest relatives are the Kuvasz and the Newfoundland, to which it may have contributed. The breed has been used for centuries to guard flocks in the Pyrenean mountains bordering France and Spain, and throughout France.
