The Laekenois's wire coat gives this shepherd a most unique appearance. In size and body type, the breed resembles his Belgian County canines. Colors include a range from fawn to mahogany with a black overlay.

The Belgian Shepherd Dog (Laekenois) is a breed of dog, sometimes classified as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd Dog rather than as a separate breed. The Laekenois is not fully recognized in the United States.

They are the wire-haired Laekenois, the shorthaired Malinois, the long black-haired Groenendael and the long anything-but-black-haired Tervuren.

Kennel Club (UKC) recognized all four varieties as one breed and the American Kennel Club (AKC) has recognized the Belgian Sheepdog or Groenendael, the Malinois and the Tervueren as three separate breeds but doesn't yet recognize the Laekenois.

The four Belgian Shepherd breeds are known as the Belgian Tervuren that has long hair, the Laekenois that has wiry hair, the Groenendael with long black hair, and the Malinois that has short hair.

The Malinois is closely related to three other types of Belgian Sheepdogs: The Tervuren, the Laekenois, and the Groenendael. All of these breeds were developed exclusively from other working breeds, creating dogs that are hardy, tough and energetic.

In an effort to create the perfect shepherd dog, a number of breeds began in Belgium, including the Malinois, Laekenois and the Groenendael.

The Belgian Shepherd Dog (also know as the Belgian Sheepdog or Chien de Berger Belge) can refer to any of four breeds of dog: the Groenendael, the Laekenois, the Tervueren, or the Malinois.

There are four varieties of Belgian Shepherds, the black long coated Groenendael, long coated Tervueren, short coated Malinois and the wiry coated, and rarest of the four, the Laekenois.

Black Russian Terrier - This working dog from Russia will reach 85 pounds.

Though it is only considered moderately popular, the Tervuren is the most elegant of the three Belgian sheepdog breeds: the short-haired Malinois, the wire-haired Laekenois, and the long-haired Groenendael.

All four share the same oгigins, with the major distinction being the coat type and color patterns. They are the long, black haired Groenendael, the short haired Malinois, the wire haiгed Laekenois, and the non-black haired Tervuren.
