Lapphunds

Dog Lapland Reindeer DogLapponian herder

Description: Swedish Lapphunds are a medium sized dog with profuse fur and a spitz-type tail. Their tails curl over the back like all the nordic-spitz tails do.

Some Lapphunds are affected by cataracts, with 3.4% of Finnish dogs affected. Cataracts can be caused by a number of factors, and the mode of inheritance is not yet well understood.

Finish Lapphunds are more often than not healthy dogs and are not difficult to care for.

As all spitz type dogs, Lapphunds like to please but also like to do things their own way! Gentle training is needed and once the penny has dropped training is easy.

The 1st Finnish Lapphund litter born in Canada was out of Marden's Finnish Lapphunds, UKC Sugarok Annisette “Annie' and Finnish Champion Staalon Halitulijalla “Taavi'.

Not only are the Lapphunds quick learners and easy to train, they also think before they act. Finnish Lapphunds are very cooperative despite being naturally independent.

There are approximately 1200 Swedish Lapphunds in the world - the majority in Sweden.
Swedish lapphund is an exclusive and rare breed outside Sweden. [1]
