The Mexican Hairless (Toy) is a calm, devoted, loving, sensitive and happy dog. He clings quite closely to his family and will follow you from room to room.

The Mexican Hairless Dog is very loyal and loving. However, it usually develops a strong bond with the person who rears it. So, it is imperative that all family members play a part. Like other dog breeds, it is very protective of its family.

Temperament: Mexican Hairless are a calm, quiet dog, cheerful, attentive and alert. Suspicious towards strangers, Mexican Hairless are a good watchdog, an excellent pet.

Mexican Hairless Dogs are very intelligent, they are extremely clever, they can be easily trained, they never show stubbornness.

MEXICAN HAIRLESS DOG gets the name from the body structure. It is hairless in nature. Its origin is in Mexico. Mostly used as a home dog but also for moving with herders in grazing lands.

Mexican hairless are rambunctious dogs demanding a good amount of exercise. They are loyal dogs that bond with their masters immediately, however they can be squeamish in front of strangers.

The Mexican Hairless Dog is a rare, (almost) hairless breed of dog which can be quite variable in size. It's also known as Xoloitzcuintli or Xoloitzcuintle (the initial x is pronounced as an sh), Tepeizeuintli or Mexican Hairless.

This Mexican hairless dog varies greatly in size from about 10 lb to 50 lb (4 kg to 20 kg). It looks quite alike with the Mediterranean Pharaoh Hound. Xolo has a sleek body, large bat-like ears, a long neck, and almond-shaped eyes.

The Xolo has threes sizes - toy, miniature and standard, and two varieties, hairless and coated.

The Xoloitzcuintle or Xoloitzcuintli - pronounced, "show low eats queent lee,' - is also known as the Mexican Hairless. This breed was considered an earthly form of the god Xolotl, whose task was to accompany souls to their final resting place.

Xolos are often called Mexican Hairless dogs and come in three sizes (Toy, Miniature and Standard) as well as two varieties (coated and hairless).

However, there have been hairless dogs in many countries of the world, including Africa and Turkey, and some think the Chinese Crested may be the result of the mating of a Mexican Hairless Dog with the Chihuahua.

Though possibly associated with China since the 13th century, some believe the Hairless mutation originated in Africa, and others believe it may be a cross of the Chihuahua and Mexican Hairless Dog, which it resembles.

China / Africa - some believe they were brought to the U.S. from Africa and some believe they are a descendant of the Chihuahua and Mexican hairless. No one is certain of his actual origin.

Some say that the Chinese Crested is originally from Mexico, and that the Aztecs used them to worm their beds. According to this theory, the Mexican Hairless Dog and the Chihuahua are ancestors of the Chinese Crested.
