Mini Foxies, as they are often known, have been bred in Australia (under several different names) since the 1800's. These tenacious little terriers are the descendants of fox terrier types bred in England and brought to Australia by early settlers.
Mini Foxies are known for being fiercely loyal to their owners and their owners' property, a characteristic written into the breed standard. They must have an inquisitive and bold nature.
The Mini Foxies have been bred in Australia since the 1800s as a small breed to hunt small pests, such as rabbits and rodents. The small yet fearless Miniature Fox Terrier stands 9 to 12 inches and their weight should be in proportion to the size.
The Mini Foxie is good with children - as long as they are treated well. They make loving, very loyal pets and fearless watchdogs. The breed usually gets along with other pets of the same size or larger.
It was called the Mini Foxie or Little Foxie. Smaller and smaller dogs were developed to make excellent ratters. The breed actually came into its modern state in Australia, where it was accepted into the Australian National Kennel Council in 2002.
Certainly, by the late 1800s a dog type known as the Little or Miniature Fox Terrier (known colloquially as 'Mini Foxies') was well established in rural Australia. By the 1920s the dog was a fixture in urban households as well.
