The Miniature Bulldog is not a purebred breed, but a hybrid or designer breed that is the result of crossing a Bulldog with a Pug or an Olde Bulldog with a Pug.

 


They took Miniature Bulldogs with them, which they crossed with local breeds, eventually arriving at a breed they named the Bouldogue Francais.

The Toy Bulldog, also known as the Miniature Bulldog, is a breed of small Bulldog that averaged 8 pounds in weight. Many of them were pushed out of Britain during the mid to late 19th century, seen as a threat to the English Bulldog breed.

Created in England to be a miniature Bulldog, he accompanied English lacemakers to France, where he acquired his Frenchie moniker.

French dog breeders crossed these miniature bulldogs with French Terriers and gave them the name “French Bulldog'. When the breed was returned to England for exhibition, the English became irate with the new name.

Miniature Bulldogs have only been bred over the last two or three decades. The rapid down-sizing of a breed can result in health and personality effects.

Neither are they simply miniature bulldogs with ears that stick up. The most frequent comparison owners hear is that they resemble either Pugs with their ears cropped, Boston Terriers on steroids or Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pigs! ...
