The Neopolitan Mastiff falls into the category of huge unattractive dogs. The drooping folds of flesh hanging from their faces looks a bit like a Halloween mask that melted after coming too close to a bonfire.

The Neopolitan Mastiff needs to be properly socialized and trained, only because of his size and power in adulthood. He is a massive dog that if not properly controlled can be a headache to the owner.

This is Otis, his mother is a registered Neopolitan Mastiff, his father a registered Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff) at 2 years old. He is a very easy going dog that loves people, other dogs and cats.

I have a 3-year-old Neopolitan Mastiff named Baxter, and he keeps on biting me! I really don't want to get of Baxter, but I have holes all up and and down my right arm from that dang mutt.

Health
Like most giant breeds of dogs, the Neopolitan Mastiff is not particularly long-lived, averaging 9 to 11 years.

They describe it as having a wide, short muzzle and a heavy dewlap (similar to modern Mastiff breeds) that was used to fight tigers, lions, elephants, and men in battle. They consider the Molossus a forefather of the Neopolitan Mastiff.

Bernard's Pass inside Swiss Alps believed to acquire the genuine residence close to the breed. They were "hopsice dogs" then known. They are probably descendants close to the extinct Molosser puppy breed and maybe crossed with Neopolitan Mastiff.

These specimens are not of true type and should be avoided if in need of pure ones. These rare cases come from crosses with other breeds, such as American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire terriers, Cane Corsos, Neopolitan mastiffs, ...
