Pancreatitis in Dogs: An Overview
Pancreatitis refers to inflammation and swelling of the pancreas, which is a large, elongated gland located between the stomach, spleen, liver, kidneys and upper small intestine.Pancreatitis can be mild or severe.

How is pancreatitis treated?
The successful management of pancreatitis will depend on early diagnosis and prompt medical therapy. The mild form of the disease is best treated by resting the pancreas from its role in digestion.

Canine pancreatitis affects middle-aged and elderly dogs. Females fall prey to the disease more than males. Genetics matter as well.

Because they are hungry, such as when eating routines are changed, food is withheld, or nutrients aren't properly absorbed.

Miniature Schnauzers are prone to diabetes, bladder stones and pancreatitis. With proper care, without feeding the dog sweet or fattening food, it can often be avoided.

Miniature Schnauzers are prone to painful bouts of pancreatitis. Early detection and treatment will help keep the dog relatively pain free during it's life. Rapid changes in diet or fatty table foods seem to increase the onset of attacks.

Other health problems they can get are liver diseases, diabetes, skin disorders, and bladder stones, anaphylactic reactions to vaccinations, von Willebrands disease, pancreatitis, Heart Murmurs, obesity, Cushing 's disease, urinary infections, ...

One dog even got pancreatitis, probably because of too high fat percentage. On the other hand, some dogs continued eating Nutro Ultra Holistic canine nutrition and had no problems.

Keep pig ears off of food preparation or serving areas. Pig ears have a high fat content and would certainly not be the treat of choice for dogs with weight problems or those prone to pancreatitis.
