Pekingese Temperament
These dogs can be stubborn and jealous. This is not a dog for someone who wants a dog that always comes when it is called. Pekes are sometimes aggressive, especially to other dogs.

PEKINGESE APPEARANCE:
The Pekingese breed is over 2000 years old and has hardly changed in all that time. One exception is that modern breeders and dog-show judges seem to prefer the long-haired type over the more-traditional spaniel-type coat.

Question by Tiana Snead: How are pekingese dogs in the car? I used to have a chihuahua who would ALWAYS throw up in the car. I got a new dog and it is a purebread pekingese, 2 months old.

First was the Fu Lin, remarkably similar towards breed we know nowadays as the Pekingese. Second was the Shoku-Ken, thought to get the ancestor on the Japanese Chin.

The Empress was a renowned breeder of Pekingese and added the Shih Tzu to her interests. At this time, three types of dogs were bred as palace companions with little difference in type but with different coat length.

In 1952 there was a strong fear that the breed was developing poor structure and it was decided to cross a Pekingese into the line in England. The purpose was to obtain a less leggy dog with a better coat and shorter muzzle.
