Pointer
Description
Pointing dogs popped up all over Europe around 1650, but the English version has remained the modern prototype.

Pointers were originally used to hunt small game such as hare, but their uses have extended and they are now primarily bird-dogs. The exact ancestry of the Pointer is unknown.

Pointers were brought to the United States where the breed flourished in the abundant open hunting land.

Pointers
German Shorthaired Pointer
Pointers are dogs trained to locate and point at small game allowing the hunter to approach and flush the game. Pointing breeds cover more range than Spaniels.

Pointers and setters are better gun dogs for hunters who prefer to have a dog to flush out the prey and allow him the hunter to find the prey. Decide what type of game you would like to hunt and then choose your hunting dog accordingly.
