The Pomeranian is intelligent, lively, and eager to learn. They are loyal to their owner and family, and they are very independent. They are bold, willful, and sometimes a bit temperamental.
The Pomeranian is a small, friendly, intelligent companion dog. This active dog was originally bred in Germany in the 1800's, from larger Nordic spitz dogs (sled dogs).
Temperament: Pomeranians are friendly, active, lively, spunky and are highly trainable. A very clean dog they have been described as catlike.

Coat: The Pomeranians long double coat requires brushing at least once weekly. It is important to lift and part the top coat and brush the cottony undercoat as well. This will reduce shedding. Frequent brushing can damage the coat.

The American Eskimo Dog, or "Eskie" as it is often called, is most likely derived from the German Spitz, the Finnish Spitz, the Pomeranian, the Keeshond, and possibly the Samoyed, although the latter is not universally accepted.
This breed comes from the Samoyed, Chow Chow, Elkhound and Pomeranian. It was a recognized symbol for commoners during the French Revolution. The rise in the breed's popularity was when it was brought to the United States in the 1920s.
The Keeshond was exhibited in England in 1870 as the "Overweight Pomeranian" and later as the "Dutch Barge Dog." The name was officially changed to Keeshond in 1925, and the breed was recognized in the US by the American Kennel Club in 1930.
