Rottweilers are not naturally without tails. Tails were originally removed to prevent breakage and infection that would occur when the tail became covered in mud and other debris collected from pastures and livestock.
Rottweilers are quite inactive indoors, preferring to sleep on or very near their family so could live in an apartment as long as they were given enough exercise outdoors.
