Saint Bernards come in both a rough and smooth variety, identical in everything except coat
The rough variety has a medium length double coat that is straight or slightly wavy.

The Saint Bernard probably has his roots in the Roman Molossian dogs, but it wasn't until between 1660 and 1670 that the breed developed into the magnificent dog responsible for saving so many lives.

The Saint Bernard is an ancient breed that was founded in 980 AD by St. Bernard de Menthon. They descend from the Tibetan mastiff, and they are likely to have originated from the mastiff that was brought to the Alps by the Romans in the year 1000.

The Saint Bernard is an extremely loyal, loving, and gentle breed of dog. This breed does well with children and other dogs, assuming it has been well-socialized from an early age.
