The Sloughi (pronounced sloo-gee) is one of the breeds which developed from the Greyhound family of hunting dogs which, almost certainly, pre-date recorded history.

It is speculated the the breed came from the Orient or modern day Ethiopia during 3000 BC, where today the Sloughi is still used in its native countries as a hunting and guard dog.
Sloughis, and particularly young dogs, like to run daily. They make excellent jogging partners, and need to go on daily walks or runs. They will truly be happy when they are allowed to run off leash.

Height: Desert type: 26 - 28" (66 to 72 cm) at the withers, and up to 29.5" (75cm). Mountain type: dogs, bitches 24"- 27" (61 to 68 cm).
The Sloughi's origin is mostly a matter of speculation. It is thought that Sloughis originally came from the Orient; today they are found almost nowhere except in northern Africa.
The Sloughi is an old breed. One of its first historical appearances is a book written in Morocco during the 13th century. While the dog’s specific origins are not known, a few facts about its past have been discovered.
Care: The Sloughi requires occasional brushing with a firm bristle brush. Bathing or dry shampooing should be done only when necessary as they have very dry skin. They do not do well in cold climates.
Temperament: Sloughis are gentle, intelligent a healthy breed. They have strong hunting instincts, and should be kept away from livestock and other smaller pets. They are affectionate, devoted to family, but wary of strangers.

The Azawakh is a sight hound dog breed from Africa. Rangy, leggy, lean, and elegant, the Azawakh is extremely high-stationed, taller than it is long.
Believed to have originated in Egypt as a descendent of the Arabian Sloughi, and brought to Great Britain by traders as early as 900 A.D.
Country of Origin: Iran - The Saluki and Sloughi have parallel histories and most likely date back to the same stem in the ancient Middle East. A painting dated 3600 BC shows such dogs. Esteemed by sheiks, they coursed gazelles and other game.
Stomach ulcers, also called gastric ulcers, are disruptions or open defects in the lining of the stomach (gastric mucosa), caused by the sloughing of inflammatory, dead or dying (necrotic) tissue.
I have talked to many breeders and I have narrowed down which breeds I want. As my name suggests I love Azawakh and Sloughi.

Popularly, the breed's origin is believed to be traced to ancient Egypt, where a bas-relief depicting a smooth-coated Saluki (Persian Greyhound) or Sloughi was found in a tomb built in 4000 BC.
Some examples are the Afghan Hound, Borzoi, Saluki, Sloughi, Pharaoh Hound, Azawakh, Whippet, and Greyhound.
Mastiff-types are large dogs, both tall and massive with barrel-like chests, large bones, and thick skulls.
The Greyhound could catch up with game and pull it down without stopping.
Greyhounds are still used today for racing.
It is possible that the Greyhound descended from the Arab Greyhound, the Sloughi.

The Greyhound Breed is said to have descended from the Arabian Sloughi and then was brought by traders to the country of England before 900 A.D.
This list can be located on the AKC website; it includes the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, the Belgian Lakenois, Black Russian Terrier, Catahoula Leopard Dog, Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier, Peruvian Inca Orchid, Sloughi, and many more.
According to this theory, the Vizsla would be the product of crossings between a wide range of breeds - The Yellow Turkish dogs, Bloodhounds, Foxhounds, the Pammion Hound, Greyhounds and the Sloughi.
