The Spanish Mastiff can be very protective of people and property. They are also not affectionate or overly loving even with their families.

SPANISH MASTIFF
It is an ancient dog, probably from the most ancient roots in the Spanish canine world, because its ancestors are those giant dogs that protected livestock about 4,000 years ago.

Also known as the Spanish Mastiff, the Mastín Español has been guarding flocks and providing companionship in its native country for centuries.

Historical notes: Argentine Dogo dogs were first bred in the 1920's by Antonio Nores Martinez from the now-extinct Cordoba Fighting Dogs, which is believed to be descended from the Spanish Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Old English Bulldog, and Boxer breeds.
