(Standard Dachshund, Miniature Dachshund, Toy Dachshund, Doxie) The Dachshund is a small hound breed with a long, well-muscled body and stout, short limbs. They possess an intelligent expression and they carry themselves quite proudly.

The standard Dachshund is 12 to 14 inches tall (to shoulders) and weighs 16 to 32 pounds. The miniature Dachshund is 8 to 9 inches tall (to shoulders) and weighs 9 to 11 pounds. He has a medium-length coat that is soft and straight, or slightly wavy.

The Standard Dachshund stands more than 14 inches tall at shoulder height and usually weighs between 15 and 30 pounds. The breed comes in three different varieties of coat - Shorthaired (or smooth), Longhaired and Wirehaired.

The large, or standard Dachshund is from 16 to 35 pounds, and the smaller, miniature Dachshund is under 11 pounds. The smooth coated Dachshund, specifically, was first developed by crossing the Bracke French pointer and the vermin-killing Pinscher.

Standard Dachshunds of all varieties (Smooth, Wirehair, and Longhair) usually weigh between 16 and 32 pounds. Miniature Dachshunds of all varieties weigh 11 pounds and under at maturity.

They are very similar to the Standard Dachshund which is the same breed but larger. Miniature Dachshunds are active and entertaining pets, as well as loyal to their owners and protective.

Although a mature standard Dachshund weighs less than 30 pounds, the dog is all muscle and is clever enough to get away with much mischief if not taught some manners.

A German breed, the Miniature Dachshund is a down-sized version of the standard Dachshund. These dogs were bred to hunt badgers in their dens. Their long, low bodies are designed to help them easily pursue vermin into their holds.

A standard Dachshund weighs an average of 6-12 kg, though the smaller breeds will weigh considerably less. Smaller breeds will also be shorter than the standard Dachshund, which as an average height of 18-27 cm.

The miniature Dachshund weighs in at 7 to 11 pounds, and standard Dachshunds are around 20-28 pounds. The height of the Dachshund is 5 inches for miniatures and around 8-10 inches for standards.

There are three types of Dachshunds:
the Long-haired Standard Dachshund, the Smooth-haired Dachshund and the Wire-haired Dachshund.
