The Treeing Walker Coonhound is skilled in treeing and hunting. It has large ears to listen to the mutest sounds of its potential victim.
These included both the Treeing Walker Coonhound and the Bluetick Coonhound. They were considered all the same breed. It was the variation in color which separated them.
Among the English Coonhounds were the Treeing Walker Coonhound and the Bluetick Coonhound. For American standards, these original Coonhounds were inadequate. After the quarry crawled up a tree, the hounds would lose them.
The worldwide recognition within 1940s over the United Kennel Club of Bluetick and Treeing Walker coonhounds as unique breeds led toward the paring down for the English Coonhound classification.
