The Vizsla is a medium sized hunting dog of distinguished appearance and bearing. Robust but lightly built, they are lean dogs, have defined muscles, and are similar to a Weimaraner but smaller in size.

There are two prevailing theories pertaining to the Vizsla's history. The first, and most prevalent theory traces the Vizsla back to very early times in Hungarian history.

The Vizsla (pronounced VEESH-la) or Short-haired Vizsla is a medium- to large-sized hunting dog breed with an elegant bearing and strong and muscular appearance.

The vizsla’s coat requires minimal care - an occasional dry shampoo or a brushing using a firm bristle brush. It is an active breed that requires lots of strenuous activity on a daily basis.

Vizslas are sweet, yet active dogs. They love playing, so they are good with children but are sometimes too much for small children. However, they need lots of exercise and activities to keep their mind active.

Vizslas are loving and gentle pets, and they can be trusted with children. If they are well socialized when young, they are good with strangers too, but they should not be trusted with small pets. They make wonderful companions for active types.

Coat: The Vizsla breed comes in two coat varieties: the Smooth and Wire. The Smooth is short, dense, close to the body, and shiny. There is no undercoat. The Wire is hard, harsh, and loose fitting. There is no gloss or shine.

Temperament: Vizslas are gentle, responsive, and alert. They are good natured, lively, and affectionate. They can be sensitive but they are excellent hunters.

Strong, agile, and loyal, the Vizsla makes a fine dog for both a family and for a companion in the field. They have a strong playful nature and tend to get along well with children.

The Vizsla will need early training and a strong owner to turn into a family dog that will be good with children. They need lots of exercise and, because they are hunters, may not do well with pets other than canines.

The Vizsla breed is a robust and active dog. They are very playful when they are pups. They do not mingle well with strangers after they are of a particular age, hence it is important to train them at a young age.

The Vizsla is a difficult breed to finger as owners have reported them as being calm, shy, boisterous, and stubborn. This goes to show that no one dog acts the same, even if they are of the same breed.

The Vizsla is a very healthy dog, living up to 14 years. Hip dysplasia can occur, although it´s not usual.
The coat doens´t need too much attention, and it´s very easy to clean.
