Believed to have descended from the Spitz variety of Germany, the American Eskimo Dog may have also been influenced by other breeds like the keeshond, the Pomeranian, and the white Italian Spitz (Volpino Italiano).
In fact, the American Eskimo dog descended from one of the varieties of spitz developed in Germany, with influences from other spitz breeds such as the keeshond, Pomeranian, and Volpino Italiano.
They were easily associated with the Keeshond, Pomeranian and the Volpino Italiano breeds, but due to those breeds already having their own success the Eskimo dogs got lost in shuffle.
