Welshies are energetic, alert, inquisitive, loyal and devoted to their families. The Welsh Terrier is less excitable than many terriers but still full of energy - so the more exercise he gets the better he will behave indoors.
Welshies are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they're prone to certain health conditions. Not all Welshies will get any or all of these diseases, but it's important to be aware of them if you're considering this breed.

As it has a tendency to get hurt, it should only be allowed to run on its own in a safe place. During good weather the Welshie is happy to live outdoors, but in cold weather it should sleep indoors.
The Welshie, one of the breed's most common nicknames, was also known as the Old English Terrier or Black-and-Tan Wired Haired Terrier. Its place of origin is Wales where it was used extensively as a sporting dog.
