This was first called "Wolf-Chow" and then, after crossing with a Samoyed, was re-named "Eurasier" (Eurasian). Eurasiers are almost a well-kept secret, as Europeans have been very guarded about letting these dogs leave their countries.
To accomplish his goal he cross bred Chow Chow dogs with German Wolfspitz bitches and produced the predecessor of the Eurasier - the Wolf-Chow.
The initial combination of the breeds resulted in what was first called "Wolf-Chow" and then, twelve years later, after crossing with a Samoyed, was renamed "Eurasier" (Eurasian) and recognized by the FCI in 1973.
Wipfel, who wanted to create a wolf-like Spitz with a family-dog temperament, developed the breed by crossing the Wolfspitz and the Chow-Chow. Originally called the Wolf-Chow, it was renamed the Eurasier after the breed was crossed with the Samoyed.
