A Benedictine Monk called Dom Perignon (Real name: Pierre Perignon 1638 - 1718) is credited with having invented Champagne at the Abbey of Hautville near Riems in France.

Made to a recipe dating to 1510, originally to combat malaria, at Fécamp Abbey in France. Rediscovered by one of the monastery's lawyers, into commercial production it went. Sweet, herbal, and unique.

Imported French liqueur originated around 1510 at the Fecamp Abbey to combat malaria. Honey/amber color. Herbal nose that is earthy and floral. Flavors of honey, citrus and herbs such as rosemary, basil, and sage. Long, smooth aftertaste.

(bndk´tn), sweet liqueur originated in 1510 by Benedictine monks at Fécamp, France, and now manufactured by a secular concern on the grounds of the old abbey.

Notes: Fratelli Averna dates back to 1868, but the recipe for Averna Amaro dates back centuries before that with the Benedictine Friars in the San Spirito Abbey in Caltanissetta Sicily as an herbal tonic.
