Generic for a specific regional aged dry grape brandy from the Cognac region of France with mandated grape, distillation, and aging requirements that define it from other brandies.

Drink:
Bring syrup to room temperature. Combine the cognac, creme de cacao and cream in a cocktail shaker. Add chocolate syrup and shake it up. Pour into a decorative cocktail glass. Top up with whipped cream and grated chocolate and serve.

Mix lemon juice and syrup with several ice cubes in a chilled Collins glass until syrup is dissolved. Add cognac and fill with cold champagne. Stir gently.
This recipe is sometimes made with gin in place of cognac.

Cognac should be mentioned more specifically because it is the most famous of all the brandies. It is produced in the Cognac region of France, which is an area north of Bordeaux, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, with the city of Cognac near its center.
