I've been bartending for about 5 years now and here's how I take an ordinary Tom Collins (any Gin) and give it a little twist. Instead of using regular gin like Tanq. or Bombay.
Tom Collins 2 ounce gin 1 ounce lemon juice 1 teaspoon superfine sugar 2 ounce soda water Garnish: Cherry and orange wheel Shake everything, except for the soda water, with ice. Strain into an ice filled Collins glass. Top with soda.

The Miss Collins needs to be shaken hard. Put the top half of the cocktail shaker on. Slap it down firmly to seal. Hold the top and bottom, stand at an angle and shake vigorously over your shoulder for about 20 seconds.

Mixing Instructions

Shake spirits, sugar and lemon juice with ice and strain into an iced collins glass and fill with soda.
In collins glass, dissolve powdered sugar and club soda. Stir and fill glass with cracked ice and add brandy. Add club soda or ginger ale and stir again. Insert a spiral of orange or lemon peel (or both) and dangle end over rim of glass.
