Peel and slice onions and place in a glass bowl with sliced lemons. Sprinkle with salt and leave for 24 hours.
Add the remaining ingredients, bring to boil and simmer gently until lemons are tender, about 45 minutes.
Spoon into hot jars and seal.
Combine Maker's Mark and cider. Add 1 thinly sliced lemon with rind, cloves, allspice and sticks of cinnamon. Heat to boiling point and serve.
OLD FASHIONED
1-1/2 oz. Maker's Mark
1/2 oz. club soda
1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
1 teaspoon sugar ...
Fill gallon cooler with 2/3 ice, add sliced lemons and oranges, pour in grain/lemonade mixture. Chill 30 minutes prior to serving. Serve up dark 'hollar', add one large bonfire and plenty of friends to share in this wild, wonderful experience.

Some people layer this drink instead of shaking it. It's all a matter of preference.
