Environment ArsenicalsArtesian aquifer

Artesian (Aquifer or Well)
Water held under pressure in porous rock or soil confined by impermeable geological formations.
Source: Terms of the Environment ...

Artesian aquifer: See confined aquifer.
Artesian well: A well tapping a confined aquifer.

Artesian Conditions: In a confined aquifer, when the water level in a well rises above the top of the aquifer.

Artesian (Flowing) Aquifer: aquifer in which water is held under pressure by confining layers, forcing water to rise in wells above the top of the aquifer.

artesian aquifer
a geologic formation in which water is under sufficient hydrostatic pressure to be discharged to the surface without pumping.
artesian well ...

Artesian. An aquifer in which the water is under sufficient pressure to cause it to rise above the bottom of the overlying confining bed, if opportunity to do so should be provided.

Artesian well
A well that flows up like a fountain because of the internal pressure of the aquifer.
See Aquifer.

Artesian Aquifer
A confined aquifer in which groundwater rises in a well above the point at which it is naturally found in the aquifer, due to artesian pressure.

Artesian Aquifer or Well: Water held under pressure in porous rock or soil confined by impermeable geological formations.

Artesian: The condition of water in a confined aquifer being under sufficient pressure that the potentiometric surface is above the bottom of the overlying confining bed.

spring (artesian)Spring whose water issues under artesian pressure generally through fractures that penetrate from the land surface through a confining bed of rock and into more permeable water-bearing rock where the water is under greater than ...

well, artesian a well that taps ground water under sufficient pressure to create natural flow to the surface.

Such water may emerge as springs, artesian springs, or may be extracted from boreholes or wells.

If a well penetrates the confining layer, water will rise to this level, the piezometric level, the artesian equivalent of the water table.

Flow of surface water in a stream or canal or the outflow of ground water from a flowing artesian well, ditch, or spring.

Aquifer: A porous, water-saturated layer of sediment and bedrock under the Earth's surface; also described as artesian (confined) or water table (unconfined).

Static Water Level: 1. Elevation or level of the water table in a well when the pump is not operating. 2. The level or elevation to which water would rise in a tube connected to an artesian aquifer or basin in a conduit under pressure.
