chaparral 1) The climax vegetation generally found in temperate regions which have at least moderate winter rainfall and dry summers (Mediterranean climate). 2) Small trees and shrubs characterized by hard, thick evergreen leaves.
Chaparral A thicket of low evergreen oaks or dense tangled brushwood.
Grasslands, savannas, many wetlands, some deserts, and tundra are considered to be rangeland. Certain communities of low forbs and shrubs, such as mesquite, chaparral, mountain shrub, and pinyon-juniper, are also included as rangeland.
The limited aeration destroyed the fibrous root system of the tree and altered water-holding properties of the soil, resulting in decreased vigor. Chaparral species commonly invade drier sites in the zone following fires.
