climax community See climax.
cline A continuous series of differences (structural or functional) exhibited by a group of related organisms, usually along a line of geographic or environmental gradient.
sere in ecological succession: The whole sequence of ecological communities that succeed each other in the development from the early, "pioneer" stages of succession to the climax community.
