Confined aquifer

Environment Cone of influenceConfining layer

Confined aquifer: (also known as artesian or pressure aquifers) exist where the groundwater is bounded between layers of impermeable substances like clay or dense rock.

Confined aquifer: Aquifers that are wedged between layers of relatively impermeable materials and are consequently under pressure. Also know as an artesian aquifer. DIAGRAM ...

Confined aquifer. A water-bearing subsurface stratum that is bounded above and below by formations of impermeable, or relatively impermeable soil or rock.

Confined Aquifer: water-bearing formation whose upper boundary is a layer which does not transmit water readily.
Contaminant: any physical, chemical, biological, or radiological substance causing an impurity in the environment.

CONFINED AQUIFER
A confined aquifer is a completely saturated aquifer whose upper and lower boundaries are impervious geologic units. Water is held under pressure and the water level in wells stands above the top of the aquifer.

Confined aquifer: An aquifer that lies between two relatively impermeable rock layers
Confining bed or unit: A body of impermeable or distinctly less permeable material stratigraphically adjacent to one or more aquifers ...

Confined Aquifer: An aquifer in which ground water is confined under pressure which is significantly greater than atmospheric pressure.

confined aquifer An aquifer that is bounded above and below by low permeability formations or aquitards.
confined groundwater Groundwater held under an aquiclude or an aquifuge, if the pressure is positive it is called artesian.

Confined Aquifer
An aquifer in which groundwater is confined between two aquitards and is under pressure which is significantly greater than atmospheric pressure.

C confined aquifer
Definition (english only)
Aquifer in which groundwater is confined under pressure significantly greater than atmospheric pressure.

Unconfined Aquifer
An aquifer containing water that is not under pressure; the water level in a well is the same as the water table outside the well.
Underground Storage Tank ...

Semi-confined aquifer: An aquifer partially confined by soil layers of low permeability through which recharge and discharge can still occur.

semi-confined aquifer An aquifer that is partially confined by a soil layer (or layers) of low permeability through which recharge and discharge can occur.

unconfined aquifer An aquifer that does not have confining formations or layers. Compare confined aquifer, semi-confined aquifer.

Confined Aquifer: A fully saturated aquifer overlain by a confining layer. The potentiometric
surface (hydraulic head) of the water in a confined aquifer is at an elevation that is equal to or
higher than the base of the overlying confining layer.

Surficial aquifers - Are the uppermost saturated zone, typically an unconfined aquifer, of mappable extent. We further restrict the definition to include important water-supply aquifers that are the most likely to be degraded by human activities.
