Downgradient

Environment DosimeterDraft

Downgradient: The direction that groundwater flows; similar to "downstream" for surface water.
Downstream Processors: Industries dependent on crop production (e.g., canneries and food processors).

Downgradient
The direction in which groundwater flows.

downgradient The direction that a fluid moves under the influence of gravity such as groundwater flows; similar to downstream for surface water.

downgradients The direction that ground water flows;
similar in concept to: downstream for surface water, such
as a river.

Downgradient: A downward hydrologic slope that causes groundwater to move toward lower elevations. Therefore, wells downgradient of a contaminated groundwater source are prone to receiving pollutants.

sentinel well : A groundwater monitoring well situated between a sensitive receptor downgradient and the source of a contaminant plume upgradient.
