Drilling Fluid Fluid used to lubricate the bit and convey drill cuttings to the surface with rotary drilling equipment. Usually composed of bentonite slurry or muddy water.
Drilling Fluid: A water- or air-based fluid used during well drilling to remove cuttings, clean and cool the bit, hold the borehole open and reduce friction between the drill string and the borehole sides. Also called mud or drilling mud.
Blowout In deep sea oil drilling, a blowout is the uncontrolled flow of oil or gas from a well that occurs when formation pressure exceeds the pressure applied to it by the column of drilling fluid.
