exotic species : A species that is not indigenous to a region.

 


Ex Situ
Refers to a technology or process for which contaminated material must be removed from the site of contamination for treatment. For example, soil must be excavated or groundwater must be pumped to an above ground treatment system.

Generally, bioremediation technologies can be classified as in situ or ex situ. In situ bioremediation involves treating the contaminated material at the site while ex situ involves the removal of the contaminated material to be treated elsewhere.
