Fission

Environment FisheryFix a sample

fission - the process whereby the nucleus of a particular heavy element splits into (generally) two nuclei of lighter elements, with the release of substantial amounts of energy.
flora - the total vegetation assemblage that inhabits an area.

Fission: Reproduction of microorganisms by means of cell division.
Fixed ground water: Water held in saturated material that it is not available as a source of water for pumping.

fission The splitting of an atom resulting in the release of neutrons, energy, and two or more similar atoms.
fission, binary Single nuclear division followed by division of the cytoplasm to form two daughter cells of equal size.

Nuclear fission: A process that occurs when an atom splits into two smaller atoms, which releases some of the energy that was binding the parts of the atom together.

Nuclear fission: The splitting of uranium isotopes to produce heat, which is then harnessed to produce electricity.

Nuclear fission and fusion is the source of energy that is released either by splitting (fission) the nucleus of a heavy atom (usually uranium) or fusing (fusion) the nuclei of two light atoms.

Fission
(Nuclear) Fission is the process where a heavy nuclei (e.g. U-235) decays by splitting into two equal fragments (fission fragments).

The explosion exposed the reactor core and released radioactive fission and neutron activation products, including transuranics from the reactore to the atmosphere.

Gamma Radiation: High-energy, short wavelength, electromagnetic radiation emitted from the nucleus of an atom. Gamma radiation frequently accompanies the emission of alpha and beta particles and always accompanies fission.

Nuclear Waste A type of radioactive waste that is a by-product of the nuclear fuel cycle--processes that are needed to produce nuclear fission or the splitting of the atom.
