Environment Flash pointFlocculation

Floc:  The large particles formed in water and wastewater treatment processes when small particles begin to coalesce.
Floculation:  The formation of floc in the water and wastewater treatment process.

Floc: A flocculent mass that is formed in the accumulation of suspended particles. It can occur naturally, but is usually induced in order to be able to remove certain particles from wastewater.

Floc: A clump of solids formed in sewage by biological or chemical action.
Flocculation: Process by which clumps of solids in water or sewage aggregate through biological or chemical action so they can be separated from water or sewage.

floc 1) Aggregates of microorgansims of bacteria and particulate impurities that are bound through coagulation to forma settleable cluster. Developed in flocculation tanks, reactors, and settling or sedimentation basins. 2) A cluster of frazil ...

floc
a very fine, fluffy mass formed by the aggregation of fine suspended particles.

floc. Clumps of bacteria and particulate impurities that have
come together and formed a cluster. Found in flocculation
tanks and settling or sedimentation basins.

The amount of floc that settles out of the water is dependent on the time the water spends in the basin and the depth of the basin. If water spends more time in the basin then the amount of floc that is settled out increases.

Breakthrough: A crack or break in a filter bed that allows the passage of floc or particulate matter through a filter; will cause an increase in filter effluent turbidity.
Breathing Zone: Area of air in which an organism inhales.

Coagulation
a process that alters the surface charge on dispersed colloidal particles in a liquid so that they are able to agglomerate; the first stage in floc formation ...
