Gamma Rays are a type of high energy Electromagnetic Electromagnetic spectrum in the form of Photons which have no mass.

 


gamma rays: Gamma rays are high-energy electromagnetic radiation (photons) emitted in an attempt by the radionuclide to become stable, i.e., radioactive decay.

Gamma Rays: Very penetrating and are best stopped or shielded by dense materials, such as lead or uranium. Gamma rays are similar to x rays.

Alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, x-rays, neutrons, high speed electrons, high speed protons, and other charged particles capable of producing ions.

Gamma radiation frequently accompanies alpha and beta emissions and always accompanies fission. Gamma rays are very penetrating and are best stopped or shielded against by dense materials such as lead or uranium.

The emission of alpha or beta particles or gamma rays from radioisotopes. These emitted particles can dislodge one or more electrons from atoms they strike.

Food that has been briefly exposed to radioactivity (usually gamma rays) to kill insects, bacteria, and mold. Irradiated food can be stored without refrigeration or chemical preservatives and has a long "shelf life."
