Interflow: Water that travels laterally or horizontally through the aeration zone during or immediately after a precipitation event and discharges into a stream or other body of water.

Interflow
That portion of precipitation that infiltrates into the soil and moves horizontally through the shallow soil horizon without ever reaching the water table.

A vegetated area that treats sheetflow and/or interflow by removing sediment and other pollutants. The area may be grass-covered, forested or of mixed vegetative cover (e.g. wildflower meadow).
