In the face of nightmarish traffic tie-ups nationwide, widespread urban sprawl, loss of open space, and the global warming we owe largely to automobiles, will we ever see a return to mass transit as the dominant mode for moving people?
Drive less. Walk, bike, carpool, take mass transit and/or a trip chain. All of these things can help reduce gas consumption and one pound of carbon dioxide for each mile you do not drive.
(TCM): Any control measure to reduce vehicle trips, vehicle use, vehicle miles traveled, vehicle idling, or traffic congestion for the purpose of reducing motor vehicle emissions. TCMs can include encouraging the use of carpools and mass transit.
