Retardation, Retard: Retention of certain contaminants in the subsurface due to one or more physical, chemical, or biological factors. Also known as attenuation.

epoch Angular retardation of the maximum of a constituent of the observed tide (or tidal current) behind the corresponding maximum of the same constituent of the theoretical equilibrium tide. Also known as phase lag.

(c) 10% or greater retardation of body weight gain as compared with control animals.
Note 2: In some studies, toxicity that could interfere with a carcinogenic effect is specifically excluded from consideration.
