Sulphur dioxide (SO2)Sulphur dioxide (SO2)
toxic gas produced during the combustion of sulphur compounds in fossil fuels; component of acid rain ...

Sulphur Dioxide
A polluting gas formed from sulphur. It is produced when fossil fuels are burnt.
Ultra-Violet Rays
A type of radiation made by the Sun that is harmful to plants, animals and people. Sometimes called UV rays.

Sulphur Dioxide (SO2)
A pungent, colourless, gas formed primarily by the combustion of fossil fuels; becomes a pollutant when present in large amounts.

Acid rain is a form of acid deposition in which sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) transform into acidic particles or vapors (such as sulphuric acid (H2SO4), ...

ACID RAIN Acid rain or "acid deposition" occurs when sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides that are released into the atmosphere by industries, towns and cities, ...

Acid Rain occurs when pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide from power plant emissions, metal smelting, motor vehicles and industry, combine with water in the atmosphere to form droplets of very weak acid.

Atmospheric drops combine with a range of chemical pollutants such as carbon and sulphur dioxide to form rain, mist or snow that is more acid than normal. It can cause damage to plants many thousands of kilometres away from where it formed.

Proposals include mirrors in space to reflect sunlight and stop it entering the atmosphere, dumping sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight, putting iron in the oceans to stimulate the growth of phytoplankton, ...

Poisonous gases that can harm people and the environment. Some gases have a strong smell, for example sulphur dioxide and methane, while others, such as carbon monoxide, do not have any smell at all.
