Unconfined aquifer

Environment Uncertainty factorUnconfined aquifers

unconfined aquifer An aquifer characterized by the absence of an aquitard above it, so that the water table forms the upper boundary of the aquifer and is free to move with atmospheric influences such as atmospheric pressure.

Unconfined Aquifer
An aquifer containing water that is not under pressure; the water level in a well is the same as the water table outside the well.

Unconfined Aquifer: An aquifer which the water table is its upper boundary. Because the aquifer is not under pressure the water level in a well is the same as the water table outside the well.

Unconfined aquifers: An aquifer in which the water table is at or near atmosphere pressure and is the upper boundary of the aquifer.

Unconfined Aquifer: An aquifer in which there are no confining beds between the capillary fringe and land surface, and where the top of the saturated zone (the water table) is at atmospheric pressure.

unconfined aquifer An aquifer that does not have confining formations or layers. Compare confined aquifer, semi-confined aquifer.

Water Table: top of an unconfined aquifer, below which the pore spaces are saturated with water.
Watershed (Drainage Basin): all land and water that drains runoff to a stream or other surface water body.

Surficial aquifers - Are the uppermost saturated zone, typically an unconfined aquifer, of mappable extent. We further restrict the definition to include important water-supply aquifers that are the most likely to be degraded by human activities.

Water table: Level below the earth's surface at which the ground becomes saturated with water. The surface of an unconfined aquifer which fluctuates due to seasonal precipitation.

cone of depression : The area around a discharging well where the hydraulic head (potentiometric surface) in the aquifer has been lowered by pumping. In an unconfined aquifer, ...
