Akasha n: is believed by some mystical doctrines to be a mystical, spiritual substance where "memories" are stored since the beginning of time. It is one of the five elements in Hindu philosophy and is often described as a form of atmosphere or ether.

Also Akasa and Akash. The Sanskrit word meaning "aether," or ether.

Akasha (1) Sanskrit root "kas" - to radiate or shine. Higher correspondence of ether and relates to the substance which is Buddhi. (2) Vitalized matter, or substance animated by latent heat.

Akasha
Sanskrit: "Space" - used in Madame Blavatsky's to translate the old-fashioned idea of the Ether of the Physicists, and in the to refer to the mysterious Fifth element or Levi's "Astral Light".

Akasha himself is here dressed in white, and mounted on a white elephant. He has four hands, which hold the noose (pasha), the elephant-hook (angkusha), and with the other he makes the mudra which grant blessing and dispel fear.

The word akasha, like the word, karma, is Sanskrit. Loosely, akasha means sort of a primordial ether of the all-knowing.

It is believed by some that the events recorded upon that akasha can be ascertained or read in certain states of consciousness.

This original undifferentiated energy from creation is often called in Indian philosophy, and modern occult, and New Age circles, as akasha, or Spirit.

The term "Akasha," in Sanskrit, means "brilliant," "shining" or "luminous." It refers to the "ether," or astral substance of pure spirit. As the fifth element, the Akasha is referred as the "Quintessence." ...

Therefore there is no such thing as "spaces" of Ether, or Akasha, or call it what you like, in which angels and elementals disport themselves like trout in water. That's the common idea.

It is also a representation of the five Hindu elements or Tattvas (Prithivi - Earth, Apas - Water, Vayu - Air, Tejas - Fire and Akasha - Spirit), and of the five elemental activities of Chinese philosophy (Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire).
