Alphitomancy
A form of divination using a loaf of barley that was practiced in the earliest of times. Chiefly it was employed to prove the innocence or guilt of persons.
Alphitomancy
Derived from the alphitomantis (' using barley'), this is an ancient method of determining the guilt or innocence of a suspect person by feeding him or her a specially prepared wheat or barley loaf or cake.
ALPHITOMANCY uses special cakes that are digestible by persons with a clear conscience but are unpleasant to others.
ANTHROPOMANCY is the long-outlawed means of divination by human sacrifice.
