Augury n : an event that is experienced as indicating important things to come; an omen or sign that something is coming; "he hoped it was an augury"; "it was a sign from God". It also means a prediction, prognostication and indication of the future.
Augury Augury is an ancient form of divination. The practice was performed in ancient Rome by priests called augurs. It entailed the interpretation of auspices, that is the movement of birds and/or the movement of animals.
AUGURY is the general term for the art of divination and is chiefly applied to interpretations of signs and omens.
