Members of the ancient pre-Christian Celtic priestcraft of Britain and Gaul, a secret order about which almost nothing is known. The term 'druid' means 'knowing the oak tree' in Gaelic; the oak tree was sacred to the Celts.

Druids first constructed Stonehenge about 4000 years ago during the Neolithic "New Stone Age".

The Druids were initiates of a secret school that existed in their midst. This school, which closely resembled the Bacchic and Eleusinian Mysteries of Greece or the Egyptian rites of Isis and Osiris, is justly designated the Druidic Mysteries.

The Druids of Britain and Gaul had a deep knowledge concerning the mysteries of Isis and worshiped her under the symbol of the moon. Godfrey Higgins considers it a mistake to regard Isis as synonymous with the moon.

The Druids of Great Britain practised it in the silent crypts of their deep caves; and Pliny devotes many a chapter to the "wisdom"** of the leaders of the Celts.

When exactly the Druids disappeared is unknown. Numerous authors state that when Christianity first came to the Isles the Druids welcomed it and worked along side of it.

The traditional thesis that Stonehenge was a druid temple is untenable, because the Druids did not appear in Britain until a few hundred years before the Christian era.

The Druids were the wise men and women who worked as teachers, healers and advisors to Kings and common people alike.

There are also legends that suggest the stone Celtic Crosses were carved from the standing stones of the Druids and were originally phallic symbols carved into crosses to disguise their original purpose.

The fifth is Romane or Sibylline Magick, which acteth and operates with Tutelar Spirits and Lords, to whom the whole Orb of the earth is distributed. This is valde insignis Magia.* To this also is the doctrine of the Druids referred.

The Hierophants of Babylon and of Egypt, the Druids, the Phoenicians, are all sons of the Dragon, or Serpents.
