To this group belong the sylvestres, satyrs, pans, dryads, hamadryads, durdalis, elves, brownies, and little old men of the woods.
The early history of Greece abounds with accounts of talking trees, rivers, statues, and caves in which nymphs, dryads, or dæmons had taken up their abodes and from which they delivered oracles.
Elemental creatures: Gnomes, brownies, elves, sylvetres, satyrs, pans, dryads, hamadryads, durdalis, goblins, dwarfs, leprechauns, giants.
Herbs: Patchouli, mugwort, horehound, sagebrush, sorrel, vervain, magnolia, horsetail, salt, roots ...
Doubtless these were the dryads of classical times; and the occasional appearance of such figures may account for the widely-spread custom of tree-worship.
Nature Elementals are the minor nature spirits such as those inhabiting or associated with trees (Dryads), Streams (Naiads), Mountains (Oreads), etc. In many traditions, those of the realm of Faery are Nature Elementals.
